Provincial Achievement Test Schedule

The 2026 Provincial Achievement Test (PAT) schedule is available online. Visit the Alberta Education website for full details.

About PATs

Provincial Achievement Tests (PATs) are written each year by Alberta students in Grades 6 and 9. These standardized tests measure essential skills and learning outcomes across the province, ensuring consistency regardless of school or location.

PATs are offered in:

  • English Language Arts and Français/French Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Tests take place in January, May, and June, with some Grade 9 students writing in January. Grade 9 students in Knowledge and Employability (K&E) programs also complete PATs in core subjects.

Provincial Achievement Tests help:

  • Confirm whether students are meeting expected learning outcomes
  • Provide results to Albertans on student achievement
  • Support schools and the province in improving student learning

Changes for 2026

To support learning following instructional time lost during the teacher strike, Alberta’s government cancelled the January 2026 Grade 9 PATs. All Grade 9 students were automatically exempt.
